Contact Energy

Contact Energy is one of New Zealand’s leading electricity generators and retailers, and proudly produces 80–85% of our electricity from renewable hydro and geothermal stations. The Clyde and Roxburgh Dams are just a road bike away from the course for New Zealand’s ultimate mountain bike race that circumnavigates Lake Hawea. We use the water from this lake to generate power at those dams.

In early 2021, we confirmed a new geothermal power station near Taupo will start building very soon. This will significantly reduce New Zealand’s carbon emissions when it begins operating and help us lead the way in driving toward a lower carbon Aoteroa.

“Radio Wanaka broadcasts on 92.2 FM & 97FM in Wanaka and 99.1 FM in Cromwell. Sister-station ‘Roy’ broadcasts on 94.6FM. The two are Wanaka’s only locally owned and operated radio stations and as usual will be playing a big role in the lead-up to the race.
